1) A Western diet high in sugar and fat can mess up your gut’s microbiota, which can lead to inflammatory skin diseases such as psoriasis. Switching to a more healthier and balanced diet can restore your gut’s health and make your skin healthier.
2) Gut microbiota is the community of microorganisms living in your intestines. Researchers found feeding a Western diet to a type of mice susceptible to psoriasis caused microbial imbalance and increased susceptibility to psoriasis-like skin inflammation. In contrast, switching the mice to a balanced diet reduced skin inflammation and psoriasis.
3) It seems making simple changes in diet such as reducing sugar and fat can significantly improve skin condition such as psoriasis. In summary, a Western diet can mess up your gut microbiota and cause skin problems, but changing to a balanced diet can reverse the effect.
